Abstract
The changing role of men in contemporary society as involved and nurturing fathers is reflected in the large number of men who parent from behind prison walls. One result of this trend is a growing emphasis on meeting the needs of parents in prison, most of whom are fathers. The article explores initially the rationale and goals for implementing a Prisoners' Parenting Center (PPC). An exploration of the five components of the PPC, finding a location for the Center within the institution, and the requirements for a professional staff person are subsequently addressed. Additional aspects of the program such as the judicious use of special projects, the importance of community contacts, and the role of prisoners in administering the PPC are explored, and possible sources for funding a PPC are suggested. 42 references (Author abstract modified)
