An evaluation of the Canadian Police College's Drug Abuse Prevention Training Officer's Course is presented.
Abstract
This course assists police officers to provide drug abuse prevention programs to school-age children. The first step in the evaluation was to determine whether the design and developmental work was sound and likely to result in an effective course. The course objectives, which included analyzing the nature of the drug related concerns in the community and selecting the programs to meet these needs, were found to have been addressed in the course content. The second step sought to determine the extent to which the course had been implemented as it was designed. The course instructors, course development team, and management personnel were interviewed and concurred that the delivery of the course was substantially as the specifications had described. As a group, the candidates left the course with a better understanding of drug abuse prevention issues and with more effective skills than when they arrived. 5 references
