The second quarterly report of the Illinois Department of Corrections for fiscal year 1991 contains updated prison data reflecting the Meritorious Good Time (MGT) legislation enacted by the Illinois General Assembly.
Abstract
The expanded MGT program has continued to help the department keep pace with the nation's fastest growing prison population. The opening of the Impact Incarceration Program at the former Dixon Springs Work Camp is expected to provide additional relief in the department's efforts to manage the growing prison population. The opening of the 600-bed Taylorville Correctional Center is a welcome addition to Illinois' prison system capacity. The anticipated opening of the Robinson Correctional Center, nearly identical to the Taylorville facility, will also help with the prison overcrowding problem in the short term. Statistical data are provided for adult facility inmates, ratio of security guards and employees to residents, status of capital projects funded by the department, adult offenses, educational and vocational programs, juvenile facility inmates, and juvenile offenses. 23 tables
