This study examines the law enforcement service needs of the increasing elderly population by the year 2000 based on a literature review and interviews with staff of criminal justice and service organizations.
Abstract
The analysis resulted in the development of alternative future scenarios and of a strategic plan based on a model organization and its recommended policy and strategy. The analysis showed the need to identify non-police services needed, the inclusion of volunteers, and awareness of victimization among the aging. Results also suggested the desirability of a coalition of outside services in conjunction with the changing role of the police and for efforts to meet organizational training needs.
