The bulletin is a programmed learning text designed to teach jail managers the basic elements of supervising jail security operations.
Abstract
The bulletin discusses the jail manager's role in maintaining and enforcing security in the jail by establishing good security procedures and policies and then ensuring that the staff follows those procedures regularly. Eleven rules of jail security are listed and discussed in relation to the topics of booking and admissions, perimeter security, interior patrols, counts, feeding, transportation, firearms, trustees, management of keys and tools, and documentation. The responsibilities of the officers when making rounds, conducting counts, supervising meals, and handling keys and tools are listed. The elements of proper firearms training are also included as well as review questions at the end of the bulletin.
