A 1990 workshop brought researchers from several organizations together to examine research designs and measures related to community characteristics that promote or inhibit the development of delinquent and criminal behavior.
Abstract
The presentations and discussions focused on eight major issues. These included the characteristics of communities that are especially relevant to the development of prosocial as well as antisocial behavior; the types of data that should be collected from census data, household surveys, informant interviews, and ethnographies; sampling and other methodological considerations; and the measurement of the effects of community and individual change. Other issues included the statistical issues involved in specific research designs, research on interventions at the community level, and pilot studies that would be useful during the next two years.
