The number and movements of offenders in the custody of Wisconsin's Department of Corrections during calendar year 1989 are summarized.
Abstract
Tables include data on admissions to and separations from facilities for both adults and juveniles and information on probation and parole services, both active cases and absconders. A total of 41,817 offenders were under the supervision of the Department of Corrections on December 31, 1989. The average daily population increased 6.6 percent from 32,754 in calendar year 1988 to 34,929 in calendar year 1989. Community supervision cases increased 11.5 percent from 27,033 in January to 30,155 at the end of 1989. The population of juvenile offenders in correctional institutions increased from 530 at the beginning of calendar year 1989 to 578 at the end of the year, a 9.1 percent increase. Juvenile aftercare average daily populations decreased 14.2 percent to 163 in calendar year 1988 and then increased 3.7 percent to 169 in calendar year 1989. 6 footnotes and 4 tables
