The committee focused on pornography's definitions, availability, and impacts; various forms of prostitution, the exploitation of prostitutes, and laws on prostitution; issues related to minors, pornography, and prostitution; public views on these subjects; and efforts to address these problems in the United States, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. The committee gathered information through document reviews, original research, public hearings, and consultations with representatives from all levels of government. The 108 recommendations rest on the principles of equality of men and women, adults' responsibility for their actions, children's need for society's protection, individual liberty, human dignity, and appreciation of human sexuality and sexual relationships characterized by mutuality and respect.
