The UCR defines forcible rape as "the carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will." Assaults to commit forcible rape are also included, but statutory rape (without force) is not included. There were 1,009 rapes and attempted rapes in Arkansas reported through the UCR program, a 10-percent increase over 1989. When time of day was known, 57 percent of all rapes occurred between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. More rapes occurred in July than any other month. There were slightly more white victims of rape than black victims (52.4 percent). In cases involving 90 victims under 10 years old, no external weapons were used to exert force on the victim. Of the remaining incidents, 1 of 5 involved the use of a firearm, knife, or club/blunt instrument. For offenses in which race was known, 83 percent were between members of the same race. Where the offender was known to the victim, 20 percent of the rapes involved family members. Where time lapse was known, 55.5 percent of the rapes were reported to police agencies within 4 hours of the commission of the offense.
