This report provides a statistical overview of the reported crimes and the activities of the police, courts, adult corrections, and juvenile justice systems in the District of Columbia for 1990.
Abstract
The data are presented in an order paralleling the actual flow of cases through the criminal justice system. The data also present trends over the last 5 and 10 years and a geographical analysis of offenses. Individual tables, charts, and maps show the characteristics of adult and juvenile arrestees, offense patterns, prosecutions, convictions, incarceration rates, paroles granted and revocations, juvenile drug abuse, juvenile detention statistics, juvenile prosecutions, and juvenile dispositions. Criminal justice employment and expenditure data are also included. Trends and issues in each area such as the shift from traditional policing toward community policing, and juvenile delinquency trends are also discussed. The data show a crime rate of 10,817 per 100,000 residents in 1990 and a 37-percent increase in adult arrests from 1981 to 1990. Tables, figures, maps, and appended definitions and tables
