A comprehensive survey of the quantity, distribution, structure, and content of drink-driver rehabilitation programs undertaken within Australia and New Zealand in 1985-1986 identified several issues which need to be resolved.
Abstract
The important functional and therapeutic issues which must be addressed if rehabilitation programs for drink drivers are to be more efficient and effective include the paradigm which should underlie programs, the adequacy of existing methods of detecting drink drivers, referral procedures, attendance options, and the potential benefits of tailoring programs for specific client groups, decisions about existing treatment approaches, the value of maintenance programs, contingencies for changes, and ways to measure such changes. As few existing programs have addressed these issues, it is difficult to evaluate current drink-driver programs. 1 table and 59 references (Author abstract modified)
