The introductory section describes the State Uniform Crime Reporting System, outlines crime factors, and presents the police viewpoint regarding increases and decreases in specific crimes. The State summary and offense analysis focuses on murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. State and county arrest statistics are summarized for both index and non-index offenses. Statistical data is presented on a county-by-county basis, while index offenses are compared between rural, urban, and suburban locations as well as colleges and universities. Urban crime is detailed in another section which also emphasizes the extent of street crime. Data on New Jersey municipalities and police employees are included in this report which also contains sections on domestic violence and bias incidents.
