The statistics cover both completed offenses and punishable attempts, but do not include offenses against the State, traffic offenses, offenses committed outside the territory of West Germany, and offenses against the laws of individual German states. As statistics recorded by the police, the charts also do not include the large number of unreported offenses. In addition to a general synopsis of criminal behavior, the report includes charts and graphs on violent crime, firearm use, and suspects (with special emphasis given to alien suspects). The year's development in specific crime types (such as offenses against life, sexual offenses, robberies, injuries, thefts, and drug offenses) is also reviewed.
