This report presents a statistical overview of major programs and activities of the Nassau County Probation Department during 1990 with comparative statistics of previous years.
Abstract
The report deals with the Administrative, Criminal, and Family Divisions of the Nassau County Probation Department and provides an organizational chart. The Administrative Division studies, evaluates, and reports current trends on crime in Nassau County. It seeks to develop cost effective programs in community corrections covering community resources, community services, employment, and guidance, and provides financial services covering budget, reimbursement, restitutions, fines, supplies, and purchasing. It also directs probation referral programs; research and staff development such as training, research, and special projects; and volunteer services. The two main functions of the Criminal Division are presentence investigations and supervision of sentenced criminal offenders. In addition to extensive community referrals, it offers special employment, mental health, and substance abuse services. The Family Division is involved with all civil matters referred by the courts at the intake, investigation, and supervision levels. It covers juvenile services and adult family services, school liaison, family services, mental health, court liaison, compact, and clerical services.
