This report presents tabular data on felony case processing in New York State from indictment through disposition for the period January 1, 1991 through June 30, 1991.
Abstract
Felony arrests in the State totaled 100,192 for the first 6 months of 1991, a decrease of 5 percent from the 105,624 felony arrests reported for the same period in 1990. Felony drug arrests dropped from 30,210 in 1990 to 27,759 in 1991, an 8-percent decrease. A total of 38,050 felony indictments were reported for the first half of 1991, 1 percent below the 38,544 felony indictments reported for 1990. Felony drug indictments followed the declining trend in felony drug arrests and dropped 8 percent from 1990 to 1991, down from 16,884 in 1990 to 15,508 in 1991. Convictions showed a 2-percent increase from 1990 to 1991, up from 33,174 in 1990 to 33,962 in 1991. During the same period, drug convictions fell 8 percent. State prison sentences increased from 15,009 in 1990 to 15,458 in 1991, a rise of 3 percent. State prison sentences increased from 15,009 in 1990 to 15,458 in 1991, a 3-percent increase.
