Intended as an introduction to the major international legal norms and organizations aimed at protecting the global environment, this volume details the theory, objectives, and historical evolution of international environmental law as well as the major principles of international law that apply to the environmental field.
Abstract
The text is intended for use by attorneys, government and private-sector personnel who are actively involved in environmental protection, academicians, and others interested in environmental issues. The standards applicable to each sector of the environment including the oceans, inland waters, air, and wildlife, are reviewed; and developments such as toxic wastes, radioactivity, and ozone depletion, which concern more than one sector, are explained. The discussion also addresses issues of liability and compensation for violations of international standards.
