Israel hosted the First International Symposium on Victimology in September 1973. Currently, victimology is taught in all major Israeli universities, and a growing number of scholars devote their research efforts to this field. Unique features related to Israel's history and political situation are reflected in its victimological research. Israeli social scientists have focused on many facets of the effects of the holocaust on its victims. Similarly, the ongoing security tension in Israel and the constant exposure of the population to terrorist attacks is also reflected in studies on the effects of terrorism victimization. Other aspects of victimization research in Israel pertain to victimization surveys; the victimization of children; battered women; victims of sexual offenses; the victimization of the elderly; and discrimination, victimization, and the socio-political structure. Future topics of victimological research in Israel are identified. 87 references
