This report describes the activities of the Honolulu Police Department in 1990.
Abstract
The department, which serves as the primary law enforcement agency for the entire island of Oahu, is divided into seven bureaus: Office of the Chief, Administrative Bureau, Support Services Bureau, Investigative Bureau, Special Field Operations Bureau, Central Patrol Bureau, and Regional Patrol Bureau. The primary goals of the agency are to step up its attack on crime and improve public safety. Major issues related to juveniles include gang membership, school attendance and truancy, and runaways. Narcotics and drug operations focus on drug trafficking and prostitution. Traffic fatalities are another major problem on Oahu. Crime prevention is promoted through the Neighborhood Security Watch, "No Hope in Dope" and "Officer Honolulu" programs, drug abuse resistance education, and the Police Activities League. The section on facilities, technology, and training discusses the department's telecommunications system, crime lab, and training programs.
