Nearly 600 police departments, sheriffs' offices, and specialized law enforcement agencies contributed to the 1990 Michigan Uniform Crime Report.
Abstract
The statistics show that the crime rate is increasing, particularly violent crimes which rose over 12 percent in 1990; property crimes rose only .1 percent. Index crimes, used by law enforcement officers as a standard measure of criminal activity, increased 1.5 percent in 1990. This report discusses the Uniform Crime Reporting system; provides commentary on 1990 crime data; and examines crime factors, crime rates, and decade statistics. The report also discusses urban versus rural crime and includes a list of relevant terms. Offense and arrest data for Michigan are provided for murder, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The tables include total index and total crime figures. Total actual offenses are presented on a county-by-county basis.
