Abstract
The college, established in 1960, has become a natural focus for international cooperation and understanding between police forces. In addition to regular international conferences and seminars, the college runs specially designed courses that encourage the exchange of ideas among police forces around the world. Britain's closer links with its European partners have reinforced the need for mutual understanding and trust between police forces. With respect to the training of British police, three command courses provide new skills and knowledge at key points in the police officer's career. The Junior Command Course is specifically for newly promoted chief inspectors, while the Intermediate Command Course is intended for superintendents who are recognized as having potential to progress to the rank of chief superintendent. The Senior Command Course is aimed at police officers selected for the very highest posts in the Police Service. A special course is also available to speed a small number of exceptional junior officers with high potential through the Police Service. Conferences and seminars held at the college provide a forum for police officers to discuss mutual problems, new methods, and new initiatives. The college has a career development center, uses simulation as a training aid, and has an extensive library to keep students abreast of the latest information. College management and administrative support are discussed as well as future goals.
