While most security supervisors are trained under the PODSCORB theory planning, organizing, directing, staffing, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting, the emphasis of their training should be on people skills including directing, controlling, coordinating, communicating, motivating, and leading their subordinates.
Abstract
This approach may make the supervisor's job more pleasant and manageable by allowing him to get a better handle on the frustrations that come with the job. Supervision, or the overseeing of employees, impacts on worker morale and performance more than any other facet of the work environment. The security supervisor's job is to increase security productivity by improving current security practices to get better performance without a proportionate increase in cost. Supervisory functions are aimed at guaranteeing the organization's objectives and are met by getting activities done through employees. Motivation and leadership are two essential qualities for a supervisor.
