The Bureau of Prisons' Key Indicators' Strategic Support System (KI/SSS) is described as an example of the Personal computer-based system that organizations can use to implement management innovations.
Abstract
This review of the implementation of the Key Indicators' Strategic Support system provides background information, outlines the four stages of the innovation-adoption process and the roles and motivations of the various participants in the process, examines the factors that influence the adoption process such as the characteristics of the potential users, and considers how Key Indicators' information can be integrated into the Federal Bureau of Prisons' decisionmaking process. Once adopted, a Key Indicators' system provides easily and on a timely basis high-quality information upon which managers can base informed decisions. Essential to the Key Indicators' system success are careful planning and the degree to which managers use it. 4 figures and 3 notes
