This report uses official statistics from several sources to provide statistical data and discussions of trends and issues in State and local inmate populations, inmate assaults and other incidents, inmate deaths, correctional personnel training, and inmate grievances.
Abstract
The report also considers prison overcrowding, inmate suicides and suicide attempts, inmate homicides, training courses and trends, and the incidence of AIDS in the State's correctional facilities. The data indicate the need to address issues such as the adequacy of the data, the evaluation of correctional policies and procedures, the relationship between the type of inmate housing and the occurrence of assaults and other incidents, and ways to address overcrowding. Tables and appended definitions, list of correctional facilities, and 22 references
