The VEA Grant Program supplements and enhances inmate vocational training. The program is designed to improve the quality and quantity of this training by providing funding for the regular vocational delivery system, so that inmates who may benefit from such training will better meet public employment needs upon their release. During 1989-90 VEA funds were used to enhance the quality of training in over 60 inmate training programs located in 14 institutions. In presenting a VEA Grant Program overview, this report covers program philosophy, funding goals, program standards, the planning process, and identified needs. A chart shows funding amounts given to administration, instructional aides, contract (services), travel/inservice training, and equipment. The total amount of funding for 1989-90 was $322,439. The programs served in various institutions are also charted along with the number of students served in each program. Various funded activities and outcomes are described.
