The year witnessed changes in legislative arrangements, computerization, the establishment of a national committee on violence, council and committee efforts to enhance correctional administration and law enforcement policies, and an emphasis on personnel and organizational structure and staff development. Work continued on the pilot testing of a national crime survey program. A range of activities involved the United Nations including preparation for the Third United Nations Crime Survey and planning for the Eighth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders. The AIC also participated in regional conferences and activities in such areas as sexual assault law reform, women and the criminal justice system, world crime trends, the role of intelligence in the international drug trade, and crime prevention strategies. Research and data collection efforts continued during 1990 with attention paid to crime prevention, international crime trends, prison trends, community-based corrections, juvenile crime, sentencing, terrorism, and corporate crime and fraud. Various conferences were sponsored by the AIC that looked at juvenile crime prevention, retail crime prevention, organized crime, violence, DNA technology, paralegal professionals, and criminal justice system librarians. AIC publications during 1990 are listed, and financial data on the institute's operations are provided. Supplemental information on AIC publications, conferences, and staff is appended.
