Reports from over 350 local and State law enforcement agencies were used to collate statistical information on the status of crime in Kansas during calendar year 1990.
Abstract
According to the reports, crime index offenses increased 3.2 percent over 1989 statistics, but violent crime increased over 11 percent. Of violent crimes, only murder and non-negligent manslaughter rates decreased, while rates of rape, robbery, aggravated assault and battery, and simple assault and battery all increased. In terms of property crimes, which rose 2.5 percent overall, the incidence of burglary decreased, while rates of theft, motor vehicle theft, and criminal damage to property all rose. Violent crime affected 4.5 persons per thousand population, while property offenses affected 47.8 persons per thousand. Other highlights of this report: the incidence of arson rose over 15 percent, the value of stolen property increased 5.6 percent, and the reported value of stolen property recovered increased 3.4 percent. Total arrests increased over 16 percent from the previous year; juveniles were arrested most frequently for theft and adults for drinking while intoxicated. Assaults on law enforcement officers increased 7.3 percent. 1 appendix
