This report presents statistical data regarding the 1990 issuing of licenses (certificates) for firearms and shotguns under the Firearms Acts of 1968 to 1988 in England and Wales.
Abstract
The number of firearm certificates declined by 6,900 in 1990 with 142,500 certificates at the end of the year. The number of shotgun certificates declined by 62,800 with 802,300 certificates on issue at the end of the year. The number of certificates is now almost at the 1984 level, after rising steadily between 1983 and 1988. About 2 percent of the new applications for firearm certificates and 1.5 percent of the applications for shotguns were refused in 1990. Nineteen hundred people applied for visitors' firearms permits, and 4,800 people applied for visitors' shotgun permits. At the end of 1990, England and Wales had 2,480 registered firearms dealers.
