Statistical information concerning the elapsed times between key events for criminal cases heard in the Supreme and county courts in Victoria, Australia are presented.
Abstract
The tables present statistical measures concerning the days between committal and arraignment, committal and ready-for-trial, ready-for-trial and arraignment, verdict and sentence as well as arrest and committal, arrest and sentence, and committal and sentence. The graphs illustrate the elapsed time between committal and arraignment, committal and ready-for-trial, and ready-for-trial and arraignment for defendants on bail and on remand in cases heard before the Supreme and county courts. Bar charts and frequency distributions are used to present the data in a different format. The source of the data is the final report produced by the instructors in the office of the Victorian Director of Public Prosecutions.
