The limit and lead program for juvenile delinquency is presented as a combination of the historical and contemporary influences in the juvenile justice system.
Abstract
This group program's philosophy, goals, and mission are delineated, and the foundation for these factors are described in terms of the program and interventions found to be effective when treating juvenile delinquents. A cost and benefit analysis is also discussed. Based on the concept that specific interventions are required for specific problems such as juvenile delinquency, the characteristics of a juvenile delinquent are described, and the necessary group counselor characteristics and therapeutic interventions in this group setting are presented. These include a combination of the traditional treatment approach of guided group interaction and the cognitive behavioral therapy. The former approach limits delinquent behavior, whereas the latter teaches prosocial behavior. Also included are guidelines for the orientation and inservice training of group counselors, for an orientation program for youth, and for establishing and monitoring administrative support at the facility level and agency level. Training modules and a training workbook for program implementation are addended. 45 references
