This report presents selected characteristics of the 101,995 inmates housed in California Department of Corrections facilities on June 30, 1991 including felons, civil narcotic addicts, county diagnostic cases, the Youth Authority, Federal prisoners, prisoners from other States, and safekeepers.
Abstract
The main characteristics of the prison population depicted by these statistics include type of offense, age group, ethnic status, and area of commitment. Statistical tables portray specific data including most serious offense by institution, most serious offense by type of commitment, ethnic group by institution, and ethnic group of type of commitment. Data on the ages of offenders are presented by institution and by type of commitment. Two tables present information on the area and county of commitment by institution and by type of commitment. Finally, the report covers parole/outpatient return status under current commitment by institution and by type of commitment.
