This annual report of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services provides intake statistics for fiscal year 1990 (July 1, 1989, through June 1990).
Abstract
Data cover the number and percentage of intake cases by county of jurisdiction and by area, manner of handling referrals at intake by jurisdiction and area, the rank order of formal cases by county of jurisdiction, manner of handling cases by race, and intake cases by race and by county of jurisdiction. Data tables also address the manner of handling cases by sex; intake cases by sex and by county of jurisdiction; number and percentage of total cases by age; and total cases handled by age, jurisdiction, and area. Other tables cover referral sources, offenses, offense rates, and rates of total and delinquent referrals per 1,000 population ages 11-17 years old by county of residence. The last two data tables indicate court dispositions of formal cases referred to intake and court dispositions. The total intake cases referred to the Department of Juvenile Services increased by 4.6 percent from fiscal year 1989 to fiscal year 1990 (from 37,019 to 38,704), although the statewide population of youth between the ages of 11 and 17 years old remained constant. 16 tables and 9 figures
