This future study identified five trends related to the impact of computer technology upon the processing and integration of California traffic collision records by the year 2001. They included highway level of service, availability of technology for traffic systems, traffic system funding, level of accident reporting, and local control of traffic accident data.
Abstract
The policies formulated in this study emphasized the need to apply computer technology to the processing and integration of statewide traffic collision records through the data entry process. The California Highway Patrol was identified as the lead agency in this effort. A strategic management plan was developed that called for the implementation of a new statewide system that can meet or exceed the performance standard. Commitment planning, management structure, and the definition of responsibilities were the key elements in this study's transition management plan. 3 tables, 3 charts, 17 notes, 39 references, and 5 appendixes
