Some of the subjects covered by these amendments include arrest warrant or summons upon complaint, initial appearance before the magistrate, the preliminary examination, the grand jury, the indictment, arraignment, and pleas. Other amendments deal with notice of alibi, notice of insanity defense, depositions, discovery and inspection, subpoena, and pretrial conference. The Supreme Court also ruled on transfer from the district for plea and sentence, trial jurors, production of witness statements, instructions, and sentence and judgment. Some other topics discussed include revocation or modification or probation, new trial, stay of execution and relief pending review, search and seizure, criminal contempt, right to counsel, time, release from custody, and service and filing of papers.
