This report contains the amendment to the Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Assistance Act of 1967 (H.R. 5037), as recommended by the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee.
Abstract
The purpose of H.R. 5037 was to provide Federal financial support to supplement the expenditures of States and local government in their efforts to improve law enforcement and to administer the criminal justice system. The bill provides for a Federal grant program to be administered by the Department of Justice. The program was designed to encourage States and local government to prepare and adopt comprehensive law enforcement plans, to stimulate allocation of new resources and development of technological innovations and improved training, and to encourage research, development, and training to improve law enforcement and to increase respect for law and order.
