These papers on criminological research were presented at 1963, 1965, and 1965 European conferences involving the directors of criminological research institutes.
Abstract
The first conference dealt with problems of administration and organization in criminological research. Programs and methods in matters of both fundamental and applied research were discussed. The conference identified main avenues of European cooperation in criminological research. The theme of the second conference focused on research strategy. Specific presentations looked at what senior officials, judges, and others expect from criminological research; causation research in criminology; research into crime prevention methods; and research on the effectiveness of punishment and treatment. The third conference explored prison research. Presentations examined studies of prisoners as individuals, research on the prison community, and resistance to change in correctional institutions.
