Abstract
The papers included in this volume address several issues: how to prevent the further spread of the AIDS epidemic, pharmacotherapeutic interventions for cocaine abuse, changes in cocaine use after entry to methadone treatment, cardiovascular evaluation after withdrawal from chronic alcohol or cocaine-alcohol abuse, the prevention of HIV transmission in drug treatment programs, organizing as a new approach to AIDS risk reduction for intravenous drug users, and the reasons woman partners of drug users will continue to be at high risk for HIV infection. One paper describes the program and efforts of the Tacoma Syringe Exchange which has been operational for over a year despite existing drug paraphernalia laws in Washington. 7 figures, 13 tables, and 282 references
