The first part provides a general survey of probation officers and probationers in West Germany and the 11 West German Laender or States. The section also includes reasons why the probation terms were imposed. The second part focuses on probation terms which were terminated in 1988. Statistics include reasons why the offender received probation and why the probation was terminated. One section is devoted to special reasons for revoking the probation such as the offender's committing a new offense. Several sections focus on demographic characteristics (age, marital status, nationality, and prior convictions) of the probationers. Each section maintains separate tables for juvenile probationers. For the first time, this collection also includes a survey of probation statistics or reasons for termination of probation since 1965.
