This study of Federal case processing is essential to evaluating the effectiveness of policies and procedures for Federal crime control. This compendium of statistics provides data on offenders from their initial review by U.S. attorneys through the entire criminal justice system.

Abstract

The data, drawn from transactions occurring in 1989, are compiled both nationally and in individual jurisdictions. The data was derived from the Bureau of Justice Statistics Federal justice statistics database as comprised of information obtained directly from individual operating agencies. The user can trace criminal activity across different components of the Federal system using the data presented in uniform crime categories and time frames. The statistical data is categorized as pertaining to prosecution, pretrial release, adjudication, sentencing, and corrections. 28 tables
