There is often a feeling in the motorcycle riding community that police officers are biased against cyclists. The book deals with this bias by first providing an overview of motorcycling and the serious nature of motorcycle accidents. Descriptive data are then presented about the various types of motorcycles, their basic operation, major vehicle controls, and engine design. A detailed analysis of physical evidence found on the highway surface is presented that encompasses skidmarks, scrapes, scratches, and gouges. Visibility and other hazards experienced by the motorcyclist are discussed as well as accident factors, motorcyclist safety and training, helmet and other equipment use, and motorcycle dynamics. Appendixes provide supplemental information on a motorcycle accident study, State motorcycle laws, motorcycle and helmet manufacturers, and motorcycle specifications. Tables and figures
