This report describes the mission, structure, function, and scope of the Santa Clara Probation Department (California).
Abstract
The mission of the probation department is to protect the community by providing investigation, supervision, and custodial care of adults and juveniles referred for probation services and by protecting abused or neglected children, clients, and victims of crime. The Department is divided into 4 basic units: Juvenile Services; Adult Services; Institutional Services; and Administrative Services. Juvenile Probation Services provides for the protection and safety of minors and preserves and strengthens the minor's family ties whenever possible. Services provided are delinquent screening, youth outreach/diversion, and delinquent investigation and supervision. Adult Probation Services investigates and reports prior to the imposition of sentence of felonies and misdemeanors and provides supervision of probation. Adult probation is comprised of the Investigative Services Unit and the Supervision Services Unit. The Department operates 5 institutions: 4 for juveniles and a Work Furlough Center for adults.
