Abstract

The introduction provides a history of U.S. corrections statistics and tables on the number of adults on probation, in jail, in prison, or on parole and their percent of the adult population, as well as the estimated number of adults on probation, in jail, in prison, or on parole and their percentage of the adult population by sex and race. Statistical tables are grouped under the general categories of jail inmates, probation, census of State and Federal adult correctional facilities, prisoners, parole, and capital punishment.
