Convictions for crimes against the person and property crimes increased in the first quarter of 1991 compared to the same period in 1990; felony drug law convictions continued to decline. The rates of prison commitments over the past few years are compared; since 1985, the most significant change is the increased rate of commitment for felony drug law violations. Another table shows the rates of prison commitments by appellate district and notes major differences in sentencing trends between districts. Statistics on the length of determinate sentences are summarized for selected crimes including voluntary manslaughter, rape, robbery, burglary, forgery, and receiving stolen property. The total volume of felony drug law violations began to decline in the last half of 1990; convictions for crimes against property and for violent crimes continued to rise. 13 tables
