The offenses considered involve criminal liability for dealings with the property of others that are either unauthorized or authorized only as a result of deception or threats. Also included are certain offenses that, though not confined to such dealings, will typically involve them (e.g., extortion, making off without payment, and damaging property without regard for danger to life). Not included are offenses of deception (other than that of obtaining property by deception) or other dishonest conduct that does not directly involve the property of others (e.g., forgery, embezzlement, or corruption). A chapter on "stealing" covers theft, aggravated theft, intent to steal, and alternative verdicts. Two chapters address the obtaining of property by deception or threats. The latter encompasses extortion, the sending of threatening articles, the demand for payment for unsolicited goods, and harassment of debtors. A chapter on goods obtained by stealing, deception, or blackmail covers the handling of stolen goods and restitution orders.
