This is a comprehensive training guide and instructional text that covers all of the subjects essential to the effective training of "protection officers," defined as "non-police persons employed in private or public security."
Abstract
The training material consists of 10 units. Unit I covers the history of private security, report writing, memory and observations, and preventive security. Unit II encompasses patrol techniques, safety considerations, traffic control, crowd management, and evidence preservation at crime scenes. Unit III addresses physical security. Unit IV covers explosive devices and bomb threats and searches, basic alarm systems, fire prevention and detection, and hazardous materials. Unit V pertains to security and labor relations; emergency planning and disaster control; and terrorism, VIP protection, and hostage conditions. Unit VI provides instruction in human relations, interview techniques, stress management, and crisis intervention. Topics discussed in Unit VII are security awareness, security investigations, employee dishonesty, and drug abuse. Units VIII, IX, and X respectively cover legal aspects of security; health, fitness, and exercise prescription; and first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
