The evidence compiled by this investigation reveals that Asian Americans still face widespread prejudice, discrimination, and denials of equal opportunity. Many Asian Americans, particularly immigrants, are deprived of equal access to public services including police protection, education, health care, and the judicial system. Several factors contribute to the civil rights problems of Asian Americans. They are the victims of stereotypes, and immigrants particularly face significant cultural and linguistic barriers that prevent them from receiving equal access to public services and from participating fully in the American political process. Asian Americans also lack political representation and the ability to use the political process effectively. More than 40 recommendations prescribe action that must be taken in various areas to ensure progress in the advancement of the civil rights of Asian Americans.
