The 1991 Maryland Drug and Alcohol Abuse Control Plan reflects lessons learned by the Maryland Governor's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission since its inception in 1987. The Commission has assumed the leadership position in coordinating an anti-drug program involving government, communities, families, and individuals.
Abstract
This control plan reports on the nature and extent of Maryland's drug problem, describing trends in alcohol and drug use in the State as well as the crime and social problems associated with their use. Accomplishments of the control plan are described herein. Accomplishments focus on school-based, college-based, community-based, and workplace prevention activities. The section on Treatment and Support Service Accomplishments notes the numbers of Marylanders receiving treatment services since 1987 and describes the various kinds of available treatment services. The Criminal Justice Accomplishments section reports on the increased effectiveness and cooperation of the law enforcement community. The 1991 plan also includes recommendations from each of its committees, accompanied by action steps and responsible agency designations. 2 appendixes
