The three security sections provide 24-hour supervision of all inmates, using closed circuit television, intrusion detection systems, and guarded watch towers. The programs section provides medical and dental watch towers. The programs section provides medical and dental services, ensures counseling, maintains an industries unit, operates supply and laundry services, runs a restoration program for inmates returning to duty, and provides an indoctrination program for new inmates. Inmates have access to an education program offering college-level courses and entrance tests. Staff in the inmate services section provide administrative support to all areas of the brig; maintain legal and custodian sections; prepare and serve all meals; and operate the barber shop, Marine Corps Exchange, and the mailroom. The Eastern Regional Correctional Custody Unit is operated by the Brig commanding officer; it houses Marines and sailors who have committed minor infractions and provides an efficient and effective program for correcting disciplinary problems and negative attitudes.
