Most academic research on political terrorism is oriented toward the government policymakers. This article argues that more academic research on terrorism should be tailored for the government terrorism analyst, since there are more analysts than there are policymakers on counterterrorism and this audience is probably more receptive to academic research. This article suggests that research must give more attention to terrorist groups in Europe that have to date been largely ignored by researchers. These terrorist groups include the First of October Anti-Fascist Resistance Group (GRAPO), the Revolutionary Organization 17 November in Greece, the Revolutionary Left in Turkey, the Red Army Faction in Germany, Middle Eastern terrorist activity in western Europe, and propaganda outlets used by European "fighting communist organizations." This article projects an increase in ethnic, neo-communist, and Middle Eastern terrorism in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. A list of U.S. government publications on terrorism is presented as is a plea for more interaction (conferences, seminars, etc.) between U.S. government terrorism analysts and academic researchers concerned with terrorism. 8 notes
