This report highlights the activities of the Canadian Ministry of the Solicitor General in 1990-1991.
Abstract
The Ministry is comprised of four agencies: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the National Parole Board, the Correctional Service of Canada, and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). A Secretariat provides advice to the Solicitor General on corrections, policing, and national security policy. This report describes the components of the Secretariat including the Police and Security Branch, the Planning and Management Branch, the Corrections Branch, the Communications Group, and the Inspector General of the CSIS. The section on the RCMP describes the organization's objectives, operations, law enforcement and protective services, corporate management, administration, and highlights for the reporting period. The National Parole Board is comprised of many divisions which include, inter alia, the Strategic Planning and Research, Program Policy, Clemency and Pardons, Human Resources, and Communications. The section on the Correctional Service of Canada describes its corporate objectives, correctional operations and programming, technical and inmate services, and management and administration. Finally, the mandate, powers, controls, and independent review of the CSIS are examined. 5 appendixes
