State programs funded through the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Challenge Grant Program and information sheets to assist community organizations are highlighted in this packet.
Abstract
The Challenge Grant Program was developed to encourage States to establish funding sources for child maltreatment and prevention activities. Federal funds are awarded to eligible States or those without trust funds. Community organizations are usually the recipients of these grants, and they may target funds to a project aimed at a specific population or provide comprehensive services to the public. Descriptions of State programs are provided including education and training programs for children, young adults, and new parents as well as local self-help and neighborhood support activities. Challenge Grant agencies are listed, and samples of press releases, letters to the editor, and radio public service announcements are included. Fact sheets and community outreach information is provided to assist local organizations.
